The Sisters Academy, located in Asbury Park, is a middle school, grades five through eight, dedicated to educating girls in an academically challenging and highly disciplined learning environment. A program of Mercy Center sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, the Academy focuses on educating the girls from economically challenged families in order to give them access to a private high school and college education. There is a nominal tuition from the families, and the program includes after-school tutoring, social services and summer programs.
A Middle School- Small classes with a teacher/pupil ratio of 1:15 ensure maximum individual attention to each student. An after-school program is available, designed to retain students in a favorable environment and presenting the opportunity for tutoring or participation in extra-curricular activities such as fine arts, fencing, basketball and others.
Counseling- Students receive the services of a social worker who offers individual, group and family counseling.
The Arts- Exposure to the Arts enhances classroom learning through discovery and development of creative gifts.
Summer Program- Broadening the girls' awareness of the world around them, camp promotes self-confidence through mastery of social and athletic skills which reinforce academic gains. The summer program includes tutoring and trips for educational enrichment.
Scholarships- Challenging academics, tutorial help and a place to do homework are the foundations. The Academy helps provide financial assistance to families so that the graduates can attend private high schools and colleges.
